Pittsburgh Stair Walk
Viv and I set an ambitious goal to walk 25 miles of Pittsburgh stairs in a day. We only made it through 16, but we'll be back one day to do the rest!
I did a ton of planning the night before. The goal start was Don's Diner in the north shore, claimed to be the best pancakes in the city by one person my friend talked to one time who said they were eating every pancake in Pittsburgh. The goal end was the South Side slopes. I had bike a lot of these hills on the Dirty Dozen and wanted to walk them too. I printed out maps of the parts of the city I wanted to go through and lined them up. Then I used the Pittsburgh City Steps website (unfortunately looks to no longer exist) to find every stair along the route, and this amazing blog to see their conditions. I then color-coded all of the steps on our route by the priority of going to those stairs.
Don's Diner
Not all the steps were in prime condition
Nor were the surroundings
And they weren't all open!
Viv wanted to dress up for the holidays (she is wearing the base mat of a Christmas tree) and a random person on the street asked to take a photo of us.
Our final Strava map.
To be continued
The great part of having a plan is we knew that straying from it was no problem, and we can always find our way back when we decide to continue. We ended up stopping in the Strip for fish tacos with Eli and walked back through light up night in market square to the PPG building, where my car was parked. We're excited to see the rest of them in the future!
